Although I had been doing independent wood products consulting for several decades, I was approached by two of my graduate students about forming a consulting company based on their experiences learned in a new entrepreneurial business course sequence at the University of Maine. Entwood LLC was formed on April 22, 2004 by Douglas J. Gardner, Shane O’Neill and Diogo Baptista to provide Technical Consulting Services to the wood plastic composites (WPC) industry. During the formation of the company we received several unsolicited consulting projects that helped fund establishment of the Company. My former graduate students have gone on to industrial positions, and on July 12, 2006, Entwood became a sole proprietorship company managed by Doug Gardner. Entwood specializes in WPC technology assessment, product evaluation and provides expert consulting services.

Over the years, my consulting jobs have run the gamut from simple identification of wood species used in timber bridges, teaching adhesion short courses to offering expert opinions in patent litigation cases. I very much enjoy the range of consulting activities in which I have participated because I always learn something new regarding the application of wood products in real world situations.
